AMD has confirmed that its new Ryzen 7 9850X3D gaming processor will launch on January 29 with a suggested retail price of $499. The chip is positioned as a faster version of the popular Ryzen 7 9800X3D and targets high end PC gamers.
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D features eight cores and sixteen threads, along with AMD’s latest 3D V Cache technology. AMD says the processor offers a 400MHz higher boost clock than the 9800X3D, while maintaining the same 120 watt power rating.
According to AMD, the higher boost speeds are designed to improve performance in frequency sensitive games, including competitive esports titles. The company claims gaming gains over Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K, though independent benchmarks are still pending.
The pricing places the 9850X3D slightly above its predecessor, with AMD aiming to offer a noticeable performance bump without a major cost increase. Availability could be limited at launch, as previous X3D releases faced stock shortages and price inflation.
The new chip expands AMD’s Zen 5 based lineup and reinforces its focus on gaming performance as competition with Intel continues into 2026
