How to check your phone’s battery health in Nepal 2026

How to check phone battery health

Your phone dies faster than it used to. You charge it twice a day now. You’re not sure if it’s a software problem, a settings problem, or if the battery itself is going bad.

Here is how to find out exactly what’s happening with your battery, on every major phone brand sold in Nepal.

What battery health actually means

Every battery has a maximum capacity when it’s brand new. Over time, with each charge and discharge cycle, that maximum drops. Battery health is the percentage of original capacity your battery still holds.

A battery at 100% health holds exactly as much charge as the day you bought the phone. At 80% health, a phone with a 5000mAh battery effectively has a 4000mAh battery. At 70%, it has 3500mAh. The phone charges to “100%” but that 100% is 70% of what 100% used to be.

Most battery manufacturers consider 80% health the threshold for replacement. Below 80%, the battery degrades noticeably faster and the real life impact on daily use becomes significant.

How to check battery health on Samsung phones

Samsung is the most straightforward brand for battery health checks in Nepal because it built the tool directly into One UI.

Method 1: Samsung Members app (most reliable)

  1. Open the Samsung Members app on your Samsung phone. It comes pre-installed on all Samsung phones. If you deleted it, reinstall it from the Play Store.
  2. Tap Support at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap Phone Diagnostics or View Tests depending on your One UI version.
  4. Select Battery Status.
  5. The app runs a battery check and shows you one of three results: Good, Normal, or Weak. It also shows battery power, life, and capacity details.

Method 2: Settings menu (One UI 6 and One UI 7)

  1. Open Settings on your Samsung phone.
  2. Go to Battery and Device Care.
  3. Tap Battery.
  4. Scroll down to find battery health or condition information. On newer Samsung phones running One UI 7, this shows an exact percentage rather than just Good or Normal.

Method 3: Secret code

  1. Open the Phone app and go to the dial pad.
  2. Dial *#0228#
  3. A hidden Battery Status menu appears showing current voltage, charge level, and battery condition.

If your Samsung shows Weak in the Members app or below 80% in Settings, your battery needs attention. At a Samsung authorized service center in Nepal, battery replacement typically costs NPR 3,000 to NPR 6,000 depending on the model.

How to check battery health on Xiaomi and Redmi phones

Xiaomi and Redmi phones running HyperOS or MIUI 12.5 and above show battery health directly in Settings. Older models may not have this feature.

Method 1: Settings (HyperOS and MIUI 12.5 or later)

  1. Open Settings on your Xiaomi or Redmi phone.
  2. Tap Battery or Battery and Performance.
  3. Look for Battery Health or Battery Condition in the list.
  4. This page shows your battery health percentage, total charge cycles completed, and the phone’s manufacturing date.

Method 2: Secret code (works on most Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones)

  1. Open the Phone app and go to the dial pad.
  2. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
  3. A hidden Testing Menu appears automatically without pressing call.
  4. Tap Battery Information.
  5. You’ll see battery health status, temperature, and charge level details.

Note: If your Xiaomi phone was launched before late 2021 and hasn’t been updated recently, the battery health section in Settings may not appear. In that case, use the secret code method or a third-party app.

How to check battery health on Vivo phones

Vivo phones running Funtouch OS 15 show battery health in Settings. Older Funtouch versions may show different menu names.

Method 1: Settings

  1. Open Settings on your Vivo phone.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Look for Battery Health or Battery Condition.
  4. Funtouch OS 15 and OriginOS 6 show the health percentage and remaining charge cycles on this page.

Method 2: Secret code

  1. Open the Phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#*
  2. If the Testing Menu opens, tap Battery Information.
  3. This works on most Vivo phones but some models have this code disabled.

How to check battery health on OnePlus phones

OnePlus phones running OxygenOS 15 show battery health in Settings. The menu path is straightforward.

Method 1: Settings

  1. Open Settings on your OnePlus phone.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Tap Battery Health.
  4. OxygenOS shows the health percentage directly. OnePlus phones also show a Battery Health Engine status which tells you if the health protection system is active.

Method 2: Secret code

  1. Open the Phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#*
  2. Tap Battery Information in the menu that appears.

How to check battery health on Nothing and CMF phones

Nothing OS 3.0 and above includes battery health directly in Settings.

Method: Settings

  1. Open Settings on your Nothing Phone or CMF Phone.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Look for Battery Health. Nothing OS shows a percentage and a short description of the battery’s current condition.

If the section doesn’t appear, dial *#*#4636#*#* from the Phone app as a fallback. Nothing phones are based on stock Android so this code works reliably.

What to do if none of these methods work on your phone

Some phones, particularly older budget models and some Vivo variants, don’t expose battery health through Settings or secret codes. In that case, use a third-party app.

AccuBattery (free on Play Store) is the most reliable option. It measures your battery’s actual capacity over several charge cycles and calculates health from real charge data rather than just reading a software estimate. It takes a few days of normal charging to build an accurate reading. After 5 to 10 charge cycles, AccuBattery’s estimate is more accurate than the built-in readings on many phones.

Download it, use your phone normally for a week, then check the Health tab in AccuBattery for a reliable battery health percentage.

How to check battery health on iPhone

iPhones make this the simplest of all brands.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Tap Battery Health and Charging.
  4. The screen shows your battery’s Maximum Capacity as a percentage and whether Peak Performance Capability is normal or degraded.

Apple considers anything above 80% as normal. Below 80%, the iPhone may start throttling performance to prevent unexpected shutdowns. If your iPhone battery is below 80%, Apple recommends replacement. In Nepal, iPhone battery replacement at authorized resellers costs NPR 8,000 to NPR 15,000 depending on the model. The iPhone 17 Nepal purchase includes a Shield Pro package that covers battery replacement as part of its two-year warranty coverage.

Signs your battery needs replacing even before you check

You know your battery is in trouble if your phone dies suddenly at 20 to 30% remaining instead of draining to 0. This happens when the battery’s actual capacity is so low that the phone’s charge estimate becomes inaccurate. The phone thinks it has 25% left but the physical battery is actually nearly empty.

Your phone gets unusually hot during charging or during light tasks. A healthy battery charges and discharges at controlled temperatures. A degraded battery generates more heat as it works harder to deliver the same output.

You’re charging twice a day when you used to charge once. Not just a software update making the phone run hotter. Consistent and worsening battery drain over weeks is the clearest sign of battery capacity loss.

Your phone shuts down unexpectedly in cold weather even when the charge indicator shows plenty of battery. Cold temperatures expose a degraded battery’s reduced capacity faster than room temperature use does.

How to slow down battery degradation going forward

Keep your phone between 20% and 80% charge as often as you can manage. Consistently charging to 100% and draining to 0% accelerates capacity loss faster than partial charges. Most modern phones, including OnePlus models with Battery Health Engine, Samsung, Vivo, and Nothing, have built-in settings to stop charging at 80% automatically. Enable this in Settings under Battery if your phone supports it.

Avoid charging in hot environments. A phone sitting in direct sun while plugged in charges at a higher temperature than the battery is designed for. Heat is the primary driver of battery degradation beyond normal cycle aging. Charging in a cool room, not in a parked car in summer heat, extends battery life measurably over months.

Don’t use fast charging for every single charge session if your phone supports both fast and normal charging speeds. Occasional slow overnight charging through a standard 5W or 10W adapter is gentler on battery chemistry than daily 80W or 100W fast charging. Fast charging is for when you need it. For overnight charging when you have 8 hours, a slower charge rate extends long-term battery health.
