Apple Partners With Google Gemini to Power Apple Intelligence and Siri

Apple partners with Google Gemini to power Apple Intelligence and Siri

Apple has entered a multiyear partnership with Google to use Gemini AI models to power the next generation of Apple Intelligence, marking a major shift in Apple’s artificial intelligence strategy. The companies confirmed the collaboration in a joint statement this week.

Under the deal, Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology will form the foundation of Apple’s future AI features across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple said Apple Intelligence will continue to run on devices and through its Private Cloud Compute system, with user data handled under Apple’s existing privacy framework.

The partnership comes as Apple works to overhaul Siri after years of delays and criticism. Reports indicate Apple plans to turn Siri into a more conversational, chatbot style assistant with deeper context awareness, similar to services offered by OpenAI and Google. A revamped Siri is expected to debut with iOS 27 later this year.

Apple previously explored building its own large language models but faced internal setbacks that slowed progress. By relying on Gemini, Apple can accelerate AI feature development while focusing on system integration and user experience.

The move also raises regulatory questions, as Apple and Google already face scrutiny over their long standing search agreement. Analysts say the expanded AI partnership could draw additional attention from antitrust regulators.

For users, the impact could be faster rollout of smarter AI features, including improved message summaries, task handling, and a more capable Siri. Apple says privacy protections will remain central as AI capabilities expand.
