Intel has introduced two new desktop processors aimed at gamers. The company revealed the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus as part of its Arrow Lake Refresh lineup. Intel says these are its fastest gaming desktop processors so far. Both chips will start shipping on March 26.
The launch is important because Intel has faced challenges with recent desktop CPUs. Earlier Raptor Lake processors gained attention for high power use and stability problems. The first Arrow Lake generation improved efficiency but many gamers felt gaming performance did not match expectations.
The new Plus models are designed to address those concerns.
The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus sits at the top of the new lineup. It includes 24 cores made up of eight performance cores and sixteen efficiency cores. Turbo speeds reach up to 5.5GHz. Intel says the processor can outperform earlier gaming chips such as the Core i9 14900K in certain games.
The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus targets a lower price segment. It features 18 cores and boost speeds up to 5.3GHz. Intel is positioning the chip as a strong option for gamers and creators who want solid performance without paying flagship prices.
Several changes come with Arrow Lake Refresh. Intel increased the speed between the processor cores and the memory controller. The company says this helps reduce system latency which can improve gaming performance.
Intel is also introducing a new feature called the Intel Binary Optimization Tool. According to the company, this technology can improve performance in some games by optimizing how instructions run on the processor. Intel reports gains as high as 39 percent in certain titles when the feature is enabled.
Pricing could make the biggest impact. The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus starts at 299 dollars while the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus starts at 199 dollars. These prices place the chips directly against AMD processors such as the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X.
If Intel’s performance claims hold up in independent tests, the new processors could strengthen Intel’s position in the gaming CPU market. Early reviews after launch will reveal how the chips compare against AMD’s latest gaming processors.
