iOS 26.3 Security
Apple has released iOS 26.3 with urgent security fixes and a clear message for iPhone users, update now.
The software patch resolves 39 security vulnerabilities, including one flaw that Apple confirms has already been used in highly targeted real world attacks.
The most serious issue affects dyld, the Dynamic Link Editor that controls how apps load and run on iOS. Tracked as CVE 2026 20700, the flaw could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on a device. Apple said it is aware of reports that the vulnerability was exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific individuals running versions of iOS before iOS 26.
Security researchers say this bug may have been chained with previously patched WebKit flaws to create a zero click attack path. In such attacks, victims do not need to tap a link or open a file. The exploit can silently take control of a device.
Experts note that dyld acts as a core gatekeeper for apps. If compromised, attackers can bypass normal protections before security checks fully activate. Researchers describe the exploit chain as consistent with methods used by commercial spyware groups.
Beyond the actively exploited flaw, iOS 26.3 fixes multiple WebKit vulnerabilities and three kernel level issues. One kernel bug could allow a malicious app to gain elevated system privileges. Other patches address potential data exposure risks, including issues that could reveal sensitive information from a locked device under certain conditions.
Cybersecurity analysts are advising users to install the update immediately. They warn that delaying updates increases the risk of exposure, especially when an exploit is already known to be in active use.
Apple has also released iOS 18.7.5 for older supported devices. However, devices capable of running iOS 26 will no longer receive the option to remain on earlier major versions.
iOS 26.3 is available for iPhone 11 and later, as well as supported iPad models including iPad Pro, iPad Air third generation and later, iPad eighth generation and later, and iPad mini fifth generation and later.
Users can install the update by going to Settings, selecting General, then Software Update.
With confirmed exploitation and dozens of security patches included, iOS 26.3 represents one of the most critical iPhone updates of the year.
