Google has released Android 17 Beta 1 for compatible Pixel devices, allowing users to test the next major Android update ahead of its stable launch. The first public beta is now available through Google’s official Android Beta Program.
Users with supported Pixel devices can enroll in the Beta Program website using the Google account linked to their phone. After opting in, the Android 17 Beta 1 update will appear in the system update section under Settings. The rollout may take some time after registration.
Android 17 Beta 1 does not introduce major visible changes, based on initial details, but it marks the start of public testing for the next Android version. Early beta releases typically focus on system stability, developer support, and background improvements before new features are finalized.
Google has confirmed that Pixel devices starting from the Pixel 6 series are eligible for the beta. This includes Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8 series models, Pixel A series variants, and the Pixel Tablet. Older Pixel devices are not supported for this release cycle.
As with all beta software, Android 17 Beta 1 may include bugs and performance issues. Users are advised to install it on secondary devices if possible, as beta versions are intended primarily for testing and feedback.
Google is expected to refine Android 17 through multiple beta releases before the stable version rolls out later this year.
